I am writing an article on microtubule inhibitors in parasitology and
wish to include a table of data comparing the activities of various
agents on parasites and mammalian cells. I have obtained IC50 values
for mammalian cell proliferation for most of the compounds from several
original articles in the literature. My problem is that the data are
derived from experiments using different cell lines, tested under a
variety of conditions, and the IC50 values (for drug-susceptible lines
only) vary by up to two orders of magnitude. Therefore I do not know
whether the values I have found are representative. Ideally I would
like to quote data that were obtained with the same cell line under the
same conditions, but have not found such a study in the literature.
Does anyone know of a review or other information source that would give
"standard" IC50 for cell proliferation? The compounds I am interested
in are: colchicine, Colcemid (demecolcine), vinblastine, vincristine,
Taxol (paclitaxel), and Taxotere (docetaxel). I am also trying to find
standard data for albendazole, mebendazole, nocondazole, cis- and
trans-tubulozole, and trifluralin, although these are not anticancer
