cloning by embryo splitting

Hello,

I have two questions that pertain to the process of "cloning" by
forcing the identical twin process to occur, splitting an embryo:

  1.  At what point in embryonic development is it no longer
      possible to split an embryo and produce twins?
      (you can't split a baby in half and get twins...)

  2.  Is it possible to force the split of an embryo in its early
      development (early enough to allow twins to develop)
      and then immediately recombine the two parts so that
      only a single birth results?
