Naturally Competent Cells?

The cyanobacterium Synechocystis will take up DNA right on the petri dish.
I have no references but we have someone in the lab doing homologous gene
replacement in this bug, and he just puts DNA on his cultures!

Hi!

I'm just wondering. You can use 0.1M CaCl2 or
electroporation for increasing the competency of a cell. Are
there any naturally competent cells which can incorporate
plasmids out there?

Thanks.

Calvino
