I suggest you take a look at Schirmer et. al. 1994 J. Tiss. Cult. Meth.
16:133-142.  They use a fluoremetric method based on DNA binding and
fluorescence of bisbenzimidazole (Hoechst 33258).  If your cytofluor
doesn't perform well in UV (ours doesn't), I've found that the protocol
works fairly well with propidium iodide and acridine orange as well,
although PI requires an additional RNase step.  Hope this helps
