Monoclonal vs. Polyclonal Ab

Mice are used primarily because there are several good non-secreting 
myeloma cell lines available which have been used with much success 
for fusion with B cell blasts.
Also, once a secreting hybridoma is produced, it can be grown as 
ascites in a syngeneic mouse.  Ascites cultures produce substantially 
more Ab then flask cultures do (on the orfer of 5 - 10 mgs /ml of 
ascities fluid).
