Postdoctoral Positions
Developmental Biology of the Inner Ear

House Ear Institute, Los Angeles

Two postdoctoral positions will be available from January 1st 1999 in
the Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the House Ear
Institute, Los Angeles. Our group is examining the early events in the
induction of the chick inner ear, and the differentiation and pathfinding
of auditory neurons. We are particularly interested in identifying novel
genes that play roles in the induction and patterning of the inner ear.
The laboratory occupies newly-refurbished space in the House Ear
Institute, which has been recently equipped with brand new confocal
microscopy, image processing, molecular biology and cell culture

Applicants should have experience in at least one of the following
areas experimental embryology, gene expression using retroviral vectors,
molecular biology or cell culture. Previous experience of inner ear
biology is not necessary, although a strong interest in developmental
biology is essential. The department has strong links and ongoing
collaborations with the University of Southern California and the
California Institute of Technology.

The House Ear Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to the
research and treatment of hearing and vestibular disorders. The Institute
is located in downtown Los Angeles, and offers a very generous salary and
benefits package. Interested applicants should contact Dr. Andy Groves,
Division of Biology, 139-74, California Institute of Technology, e-mail:
