Bilirubin analysis in tissue

After extensive library, journal, and internet searching I have yet to 
find a GOOD method to analyze bilirubin from tissue samples (like heart 
tissue for example). I'm looking for a spectrophotometric assay 
specifically--I have been able to locate bilirubin analysis from tissue 
homogenates using HPLC. 

So, if anyone has any bright ideas on how this may be done, have a 
procedure, or know of anyone doing these sort of things, I would greatly 
appreciate your help.
