Junk DNA

Say again???

Herpes simplex is not a part of our genome. Even in individuals who are
latently infected with HSV, the DNA is not integrated, but is episomal.
Even if HV DNA were integrated into neuronal genomes, that is more a
reflection of the ubiquitous nature of these viruses, not of a functional
implication.
I can think of no situation where virus infection is a good thing for a
cell. Viral infections have either no effect on the cell, or a bad effect.
