All I can give is my personal experience with both glycerol and DMSO.  I
have found that for most of the cells I have worked with in the past, I have
gotten better viability with growth media supplemented with 10% glycerol
than media with 10% DMSO.

FYI, I was working in a lab which used human and monkey lymphocytes.  In
this lab we froze the lymphocytes in fetal bovine serum with 10% glycerol,
and got excellent viability.
