Ion concentrations of cells

Hi!

Nerve cells maintain high potassium ion concentrations within themselves,
and drive the sodium ions out. This makes it possible to launch action
potentials.

It seems that other cells also maintain high postassium ion concentration
inside and high sodium ion concentration outside. Why is that?

Thanks in advance,
