The CHLAMYDOMONAS newsgroup is ready for operation and the mailing
list received from Dr. Elizabeth Harris has been installed. Users
located in the Americas and the Pacific Rim countries are served by
biosci at net.bio.net and should direct any subscription mail there.
Users in Europe, Africa, and Central Asia should contact
biosci at daresbury.ac.uk regarding e-mail subscription information. I
tried to make sure that the address list was split correctly, but some
addresses are hard to decipher geographically and may have
accidentally ended up at the wrong site (no mail will be missed).
If you have access to USENET news software (the best way to follow
these forums), then you can simply participate in
bionet.chlamydomonas. Please contact the appropriate biosci address
above and cancel your e-mail subscription.
Since many of you may not be familiar with BIOSCI/bionet, I include
our version of the instruction sheet below. The next message posted
contains the BIOSCI FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) and the third
message contains information about other important BIOSCI features
such as our user directory. If all of you take the time to fill out
the directory form and be sure to put the word CHLAMYDOMONAS on one of
the comment: lines in the form, it will be possible to maintain a
database of chlamydomonas participants via our e-mail server.

Introduction

The BIOSCI newsgroup network was developed to allow easy worldwide
communications between biological scientists who work on a variety of
computer networks. By having distribution sites or "nodes" on each
major network, BIOSCI allows its users to contact people around the

copies of that message will be distributed automatically to all other
