A plant molecular biologist has indicated an interest in
pursuing a systemmatic exploration of Chlamy transformation with
heterologous, mostly higher plant, DNA. The idea is to use the most
up-to-date vectors and up-to-date transformation techniques and see if
the problem can be solved. Since he has considerable resources, this
project could yield results of considerable benefit to all of us.
Therefore, I am using the Internet to request from each of you
the following:
1. Published experiments describing efforts to express
non-homologous genes, or use non-homologous promoters, in Chlamy.
2. Unpublished experiments of the same ilk: what you tried,
what you found, including your mode of transformation, recipient
strains, ets., anything that might be useful.
3. Any observations you've made, or speculations you've
entertained, as to why hereologous genes are not expressed.
4. Published/unpublished experiments using antisense (homologous
systems included).
