We are now ready for a test run of a downloadable version of the
Chlamydomonas acedb database. This version runs on the following
workstations:
Sun Microsystems SPARCstation (any model using OpenWindows or
Solaris)
Digital Equipment Alpha (any model using Motif or DECwindows)
Silicon Graphics IRIS
Other types of Unix workstations, using the X11 libraries and the GNU
gcc compiler to build the software from the source code.
The necessary files can be obtained by ftp to
probe.nalusda.gov
log on as ANONYMOUS, using your e-mail address as password, and go to
the pub/chlamy directory.
First get the text file
ChlamyDB.retrieval-installation
This file will tell you which additional files you will need for
installation on your system and will tell you how to go about it.
The data contained in this version of ChlamyDB are the same as are
available on the National Agricultural Library plant genome server by
WWW or gopher. However, having the database installed on your own
computer will give you added flexibility, fast response, crisper map
displays, and the potential to make your own additions or modifications
to the database.
Thanks to Maulin Shah at Duke and Sam Cartinhour at NAL for making this
possible!
