I'd like to bring to the attention of the Chlamydomonas community the
availability of a postdoctoral fellowship in the life sciences at Brown
University, for an individual who qualifies according to the criteria
outlined below. The fellowship is tenable in any lab at the University,
although I would of course hope that candidates would consider working in
my lab. I can supply additional information and help if requested.

Brown University Post-Doctoral Training Fellowship in a Life Science
Brown University seeks applications from persons who: (i) are, or who
will be at the onset of the fellowship, recipients of the PhD in a life
science; (ii) are intending careers in college or university teaching and
research; and (iii) have a strong commitment to advancing the well-being
of traditionally under-represented ethnic groups in American higher
education.
The fellowship is awarded for two years beginning July 1, 1995, during
which period the fellow should be ³in residence² at the University in
Providence, RI. At Brown the fellow will be affiliated with an
appropriate academic unit in whose activities he/she will participate.
The fellow will be employed on the research project of a senior
professorial colleague who will also serve as the fellow¹s professional
mentor. Individuals considering applying are encouraged to contact Brown
faculty in their field to explore the possibilities of such association.
During the first year this appointment will carry an annual stipend of
$32,000 (for a work-year of eleven months), plus individual health
benefits. The fellow will also receive an annual allowance of $2,500 to
help defray actual costs of research and/or attendance at professional
meetings. Reimbursement of moving expenses to Providence is provided up
to a limit of $1,500. No special allowances for dependents are included.
A complete application for this fellowship consists of all of the
following: (i) a cover letter to the search committee expressing the
applicant¹s interest in the award and showing evidence of the commitment
referred to above; (ii) a current curriculum vitae; (iii) three letters
of recommendation forwarded directly to the committee at the request of
the candidate commenting on the applicant¹s qualifications for
postdoctoral work; and (iv) a statement (four to six pages in length)
describing the research project the applicant wished to pursue and
mentioning any needed facilities. Candidates should note any previous
contacts made with Brown University faculty researchers in their field.
