One might expect such differences if the cells were in different growth
phases. Also, I found that, with Dunaliella, CO2 is limiting in exponential
phase cells at low pH but that that there is little effect on stationary
phase cells.  Were growth curves done on the cultures?  What was the medium
buffered with?  At pH 9.5, did the iron, calcium and the phosphate
precipitate?
