I've had good results using TRIzol reagent (GIBCO BRL) or REX total RNA extraction kit (USB). About the latter, you can even make all the solutions needed by yourself. Roughly, TRIzol prep. is faster and REX prep. results more pure RNA. I can give those protocols if you want.
