Post-doctoral position available
A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Stephen
Mayfield at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif. The project
involves the study of RNA/protein interaction in light regulated
translation. Expertise in molecular biology is essential and an
understanding of Chlamydomonas genetics is desirable.
Translational regulation in chloroplast requires the interaction of
a specific set of RNA binding proteins with the 5' untranslated region
(UTR) of the mRNA. We are interested in how these proteins recognize and
bind to the 5' UTR and how protein/RNA interaction results in translational
activation of the downstream coding region. We are using both genetic and
biochemical analysis to identify the components of translational
regulation, as well as structural analysis of the RNA elements and
transacting factors.
