Please help support the Chlamydomonas Genetics Center!
As you are probably aware, the Chlamydomonas Genetics Center receives its
financial support from the National Science Foundation. One of the
conditions of our grant is that we raise a portion of our operating costs
from the user community. Rather than charge directly for cultures, which
we feel would not be cost-efficient, we ask that persons who receive
cultures from our collection or make substantial use of our database and
the bionet.chlamydomonas newsgroup subscribe to our services on an annual
basis. Our last formal appeal was made two years ago, in January 1995.
This message asks your support retroactively for 1996, and if possible also
for the calendar year 1997. We hope that the convenience of making only a
single payment will encourage you to pay for both years at this time.
We request a total annual subscription per participating laboratory of $100
(U.S.). This covers service to all persons in that laboratory (i.e.
separate individual subscriptions for students, postdoctoral fellows etc.
are not required). If you feel this is an unreasonable charge, are without
grant support, or otherwise find this a burden, we'll accept whatever you
can send.
To save postage, we would prefer to send formal invoices only if they are
required by your purchasing department. We would appreciate it therefore
if you can indicate your intended support, and whether you will require a
paper invoice, by replying to this message:
_____ I intend to send payment only for 1996 at this time
_____ I will send payment for 1996 and 1997, a total of $200
_____ I have already paid for 1996, but will pay for 1997
_____ I will require a formal invoice.
Please include the name of the professor or laboratory head in whose name
the subscription will be listed, the address to which the invoice should be
sent if it is needed, and the amount to be billed in the invoice.
Several people have asked whether credit cards can be accepted for payment.
Efforts to set up such a system have encountered some difficulties, but we
are willing to pursue this option if enough people would prefer it. Please
let us know if this would be useful to you.
Checks should be made payable to the Chlamydomonas Genetics Center and mailed to
