The Faculty of Natural Sciencies, Botanical Institute, Göteborg University,
Sweden invites applicants for a
Chair in Plant molecular biology
The Botanical institute is seeking a plant molecular biologist to
contribute to research and teaching in the area generally described as
plant molecular biology. The Department´s teaching and research activities
span a wide range of topics from plant physiology to marine botany.
The appointee´s research interest may well be in an area of functional
plant genomics but should complement the existing research strengths in the
Botanical institute which include plant cellular and molecular biology,
plant ecophysiology, plant systematics and evolution, and marine,
terrestrial and chemical ecology. Knowledge in bioinformatics also from an
evolutionary perspective is qualifying. Experience of applying molecular
biological techniques is also important. We expect the candidate to
participate in interdisciplinary work with other groups at the Botanical
The successful applicant is expected to lead a dynamic and vigorous
research group and raise significant external grant funding for support.
The appointeé will take responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate
training and necessary administration.
Applicants are required to submit, in four copies, (i) a curriculum vitae
including an account of her/his scientific and teaching merits and other
activites of relevance, (ii) a description of research activities and (iii)
a list of scientific publications as well as copies of degrees obtained and
other documents of relevance. It should be clear from the written account
which scientific results and other merits are the most highly rated by the
applicant. The applicant should also indicate and forward in four copies
the publications which s/he considers most adequately represent her/his
scientific achievements. Other publications included in the list of
publications are to be provided in one copy. The four copies should be
split into equivalent packages (to be sent directly to the referees).
Applications marked with ref no E311 55/99 should be submitted to the
Registrar of the Göteborg University, Box 100, SE 40530 Göteborg, Sweden,
no later than 1999-02-22. The documents which the applicant wishes to refer
to in support of the application can be submitted up to three weeks after
the application period has expired. In such a case the documents have to be
listed in the original application.
