POSTDOCTORAL POSITION: In vivo and in vitro analysis of modified
chloroplast Rieske iron-sulfur proteins of Chlamydomonas
DESCRIPTION: NSF-funded postdoctoral position to investigate the
chloroplast Rieske iron-sulfur protein of the alga Chlamydomonas, a
model-organism for photosynthesis. A specific focus will be the role and
mechanism of the Rieske protein in a signaling pathway that regulates
photosynthesis. Complementary genetic, biochemical, and spectroscopic
approaches will be used to investigate modified Rieske proteins both in
living cells of Chlamydomonas (Plant Cell 11, 2031-2044) and in vitro as
overproduced proteins reconstituted with iron-sulfur clusters (Biochemistry
35, 15485-15493) or in isolated cytochrome bf complexes. The work will
involve collaborations with Catherine de Vitry and others at the Institut
Biologie Physico-Chimique in Paris, the laboratory of William Cramer at
Purdue, and William Antholine at the National Biomedical ESR Center in
Milwaukee.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS: Research experience in molecular biology and
biochemistry, the ability to work independently, and writing skills in
English. All qualified applicants will be considered but preference will
be given to residents of the U.S. or persons whose visas readily allow
travel between Europe and the U.S.
STARTING DATE: Funding is available immediately for a three year period.
A likely starting date is May-June 2001. Applicants should send a
