A postdoctoral position is currently available to study the
evolution of coding regions in different green algal lineages. This
position, part of the Protist EST Program (PEP) involving several
participating laboratories across Canada, is funded by Genome Canada
and administered through Genome Atlantic. The program has the goal
of exploring the expressed nuclear gene sequences of selected
protists, most of which are unicellular. The position will involve
cDNA library construction and screening as well as sequence analysis
and annotation. Candidates with experience in bioinformatics and
molecular biology and an interest in evolutionary biology are
encouraged to apply by submitting a one page summary of research
interests and experience, a curriculum vitae, and the names and
addresses (with phone numbers and e-mail addresses) of three
references. Annual salary is $35,000 Canadian plus fringe benefits.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled; it is hoped, however, that the successful
applicant can begin around September 1, 2002. Application material
