Three questions that have persistently been gnawing at me that I am submitting
for the expertise of the Chlamydonas community:
1. What is the approximate diameter of the flagella in C. reinhardtii?
2. Is there an approximate age that C. reinhardtii cells live to? Days, weeks?
3. I have come across a number of different descriptions of the W7 cell wall
layer in C. reinhardtii. Is it now better understood to have a specific
function or fate? For example, is it transient and en-route to being secreted
into its environment, is there any evidence that it adsorbs or incorporates
compounds from its surroundings, does it serve a structural purpose?
I would be grateful for any enlightenment on these topics. Many thanks in advance.
Sincerely yours,
Doug Weibel
