Postdoctoral fellowship in biophysical analysis of directionality in
type 1 reaction centers
Time frame: minimum of 2 years, extendable to 3 years (or more,
depending upon availability of funds)
Start date: as early as Jan 1, 2005
Salary: $30,000/year + benefits with regular annual raises (assuming
satisfactory progress)
Project: The individual will join an international research project
probing directionality of electron transfer within type 1 RCs, with a
focus on Photosystem I from green algae and cyanobacteria. The
project will entail site-directed mutagenesis of Photosystem I
polypeptides in an attempt to bias choice of electron transfer
pathway, which will be done in the laboratory of Kevin Redding at the
University of Alabama. Assessment of directionality will largely be
done by kinetic optical spectroscopy in the group of Fabrice
Rappaport at the Institut de Biologie Physico-Chimique in Paris. This
technique will be supplemented by "static" and transient ESR
(electron spin resonance) measurements at the ESR center at U.A. and
elsewhere.
Interested applicants should have (or be able to obtain quickly) the
right to travel and work as a postdoctoral researcher in both the
U.S.A. and France. (Those who are not sure are encouraged to ask.) It
is important that the applicant know that they will be expected to
split their time between Alabama and Paris, although the exact
arrangements are negotiable.
For those interested: Please send a current CV to Kevin Redding by
email (Kevin.Redding at ua.edu). In addition, please have 3 letters of
reference mailed to:
