Genetically modified Chlamydomonas reinhardtii 137c+, is being proposed for
outdoor bioproduction here in Hawai`i. This will not be at a secure
research lab but rather a largely unsupervised shoreline aquaculture
facility. Given many unfortunate and tragic experiences with past
introductions (introductions becoming invasives) there is growing public
concern over this GMO introduction and the apparent lack of preliminary
investigation or oversight on this proposed project. Can anyone provide
information regarding the wisdom of such an introduction to Hawai`i and any
specific concerns that we should be aware of?
Thanks for the assistance,
