There is a European Community project whose name I don't remember that is
producing a CD-ROM database plus identification software for plants, insects 
and diseases of agronomic interest.  The database includes high resolution 
slides plus text ('hypertext').  Contributing countries are UK, France, 
Germany, and a few others.
