                                     (note the Followup-To)

Anybody out there who has written _biocomputing software_ (or similar)
using a functional language, e.g. Haskell, Gofer, Clean, OPAL, Sisal ??
Could you tell me your experiences ?

(for more info on functional programming, see the FAQ of
comp.lang.functional, or via WWW, ftp://coral.cs.jcu.edu.au/web/FP/home.html.
Basically, instead of "total = 0; for (i=1; i<=10; ++i) total += i;",
which is imperative, you write "sum [1..10]", i.e. evaluate the function sum.
The compiler takes care of generating efficient code, and your code is less
error-prone and better reusable because side effects dont exist)
