Recommend textbooks on sequence searching?

Brandeis is going to be offering a course called "Interpretations of
Genes" in the spring of 1996, which will include topics on biostatistics
and searching genetics databases. Has anyone out there taught a similar
course? Could anyone recommend a text?

As we see it now, we don't want to delve into the algorithms in a great
deal of detail, but we may instead choose to focus on something like this:

1) This algorithm uses this kind of strategy....
1a) This makes it good for finding matches in the following cases....
1b) The weaknesses of this algorithm are....

2) To use this algorithm, you need <software package> or access <WWW address>.
