Volume estimation techniques

Hi,
I'm working on a modelization of human ovary growth. In particular our
interest is volume estimation during histogenesis.
I'd like to know if exists a classification of techniques for volume
estimation of human organs, like invasive/non-invasive tech.,
stereological methods, ...
Is there any article that does this?
