                       NEW DEADLINE FOR CONTRIBUTIONS : June, 15

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The partial or complete sequencing of genomes makes interpretation and the
development of techniques of decrypting an urgent priority.

General or specialized databanks have proliferated during the last ten
years. The interpretation of this data by increasingly sophisticated
computing techniques requires close collaboration between diverse
disciplines (molecular biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and
statistics).

Such collaborations have led to major advances in the following fields :

   * Sequences searches and comparisons
   * Construction of genomics maps.
   * Evolution and Phylogeny

The first MABS international Workshop was held in Trondheim (Norway) in
1996. The forty participants, who represented a cross-section of the
different disciplines, were unanimous that the meeting was valuable and
should be repeated regularly.

                  A second workshop is now being organized.

The objectives of this workshop are to :

   * provide an update of research in France and other countries
   * promote contacts between different disciplines
   * formulate new research programs

Topics to be covered in this workshop :

   * Statistical analysis of sequences
   * Sequences comparisons
   * Mapping
   * DNA and protein analysis
   * Evolution and phylogeny
   * Computing and mathematical tools

The final details of the program will depend on the speakers and others
participants and will be available within a few weeks.

Arrangements

The workshop will be held in the University of Rouen, located in Mont Saint
Aignan.
Sessions will be based on seminars from invited speakers and from
paricipants selected by the scientific committee.

Scientific contributions will be either oral presentations or posters.

The number of participants is limited to 50.

The abstracts will be published in the proceedings of the meeting.

A few facts about Rouen

Rouen, a city of art and history, is also an economic metropolis with a very
active port and commercial life. A city of 105,000 inhabitants at the heart
of a 380.000 greater urban area, Rouen is the historic capital of Normandy,
and administrative center for the region of Upper Normandy. Throughout the
city evidence of the past and present are closely linked, and endower it
with its charm and liveliness.
Magnificent monuments dot its widely dispersed historical sections : the
Cathedral, the "Gros-Horloge", the Law Courts, the Old Market Place - the
place of Joan of Arc's agony and its church, the Cloister, the church of
Saint-Maclou, and the Saint-Ouen Abbey...will surprise you on turning into
picturesque streets lined with timbered houses.
