                  GeneCards 2.10

GeneCards is a database of human genes, their products and related
diseases.
GeneCards is developed at the Weizmann Institute of
Science Crown Human Genome Center and the Bioinformatics Unit
of the Department of Biological Services. It is available at

 http://bioinfo.weizmann.ac.il/cards

The GeneCards database is automatically generated by retrieving
relevant data from various data sources: HUGO nomenclature committee,
GDB, MGD, SWISS-PROT,UniGene, PubMed, UDB (The Unified DataBase), OMIM,
GenAtlas, Atlas and others.

A card is generated for each gene; It includes
- standard gene symbol and name,
- gene aliases,
- cytogenetic locus,
- integrated-map location,
- data about the protein,
- UniGene clusters of nucleic acid sequences,
- disease information,
- medical applications,
- titles of research articles,
- data about the mouse homologous gene,
- a search button for ordering clones from RZPD,
- etc.
Thus, the main function of the card is to present the user
with a concentrated fact sheet about the gene. More than that, it
includes many links to the relative entries in other data sources
and can serve as a starting point for the scientist to search for
more data about the gene of interest.

GeneCards is a user-friendly resource that aims to make the search
executed by the user, efficient as possible.

GeneCards currently holds information 8455 human genes. There
are about 45,000 monthly accesses to the GeneCards site at the
Weizmann institute and additional accesses to the seven GeneCards
mirrors located in Europe, North America and Asia.
