Molecular Biology.
The goal of the workshop is to bring biological and computational
scientists
together to discuss whole genome comparison at three levels:
- Whole genome sequence comparison, including the implications for
identification of protein coding and regulatory regions and the origin
and
role of non-coding DNA.
- Whole genome map comparison, including the importance of spatial
genomic organization and the role of duplications and rearrangements in
genome evolution and structure.
- Functional genomic comparison: comparison of comprehensive
functional data sets such as the set of orthologs, protein folds,
expression patterns, pathways or protein-protein interactions found in
a given organism.
Work that addresses whole genome comparison on two or more of
these levels is of particular interest. The workshop will focus on
research
comparing the genomes of different organisms, as well as the comparison
of a single genome with itself.
The workshop will be a combination of invited and contributed talks.
If you are interested in giving a talk, please submit a short abstract
(maximum two pages) by December 8th for consideration by the
program committee. Abstracts should be submitted via email to
Ms. Robin Rentka (rw33 at andrew.cmu.edu) in plain text (preferred),
pdf, Word, or postscript formats.
Limited funds are available to support student participation in the
workshop.

Our funding agencies require that we charge a registration fee during
the
course of the workshop. Registration fees include participation in the
workshop,
all workshop materials, breakfast, lunch, breaks and any scheduled
social
events (if applicable). Fees are $40 per person per day for faculty,
researchers
and "other", and $5 per person per day for postdocs. However, the
registration
fee is waived for undergraduate students, graduate students, DIMACS
postdocs
and DIMACS long-term visitors who are in residence at DIMACS. Fees for
all DIMACS Members are covered through their institution's membership in
DIMACS and therefore no DIMACS Member needs to pay the registration fee.
