A postdoctoral position is available in a NIH funded research project
to study signal transduction mechanisms involving brain protein
tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) in neurodegenerative disorders. The
position involves work on cell culture and animal models of ischemic
stroke to determine how PTPs participate in the regulation of MAP
kinase signaling cascades and neuronal cell death. The research program
presents the opportunity to learn and use skills in a variety of
approaches, including molecular biology, protein biochemistry,
immunohistochemistry, gene knockout technology, cell culture and animal
models.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience / cell biology /
biochemistry / physiology. A strong background in protein chemistry,
cell biology and experience in animal studies is essential. Candidates
with an ability to do surgery in small animals (preferably MCAO) are
highly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should be able to
communicate effectively and be capable of working both independently
and part of a team.
