BIOINFORMATICS POSITIONS - ROTHAMSTED RESEARCH, HARPENDEN, HERTFORDSHIRE, UK

Rothamsted Research is the leading UK Research Institute focusing on the science
underpinning the sustainability of arable crops and includes research on model
plants such as Arabidopsis and the pathogens and insects that affect
agricultural systems. An increasing amount of our research uses molecular
genetic, genomic and metabolomic techniques. As a result of recent strategic
investments in crop science and bioenergy crop research, we are expanding our
team of bioinformatics scientists in the Department of Biomathematics and
Bioinformatics to take advantage of the increasing volume and complexity of data
that is being collected. The following vacancies are all at Rothamsted Research
in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, located approximately 30 miles north of central
London (25 minutes by train).

Bioinformatics Research Group Leader. (Vacancy 1005).

You will be expected to lead and develop a research programme in
bioinformatics relevant to the work of Rothamsted Research. This position

post-doctoral research assistant to accompany this appointment. It would
ideally suit an experienced young post-doctoral scientist looking for a
permanent position in an active and growing bioinformatics
group. Candidates should have a PhD in computer science, bioinformatics or
computational molecular biology and be able to demonstrate that they have
the scientific and technical expertise as well as the personal qualities
needed to lead a bioinformatics research group.

novel data integration and next mining system (the ONDEX system -
http://ondex.sourceforge.net). You will have excellent programming skills
in Java (essential), SQL and PHP and be thoroughly conversant with software
engineering techniques and tools (Eclipse, software versioning systems and
release management, UML, ER diagrams) working in a mixed Windows/LINUX
environment. Interested candidates should have at least an MSc or
equivalent in Bioinformatics or Computer Science.

Starting salary will be negotiable depending on the candidate's experience
but would likely be within the range of £24,200 to £33,450 (49,000 Euros)
    per annum (pay award pending).

Required to take responsibility for developing and supporting genetic and
genomic data analysis tools to be used in a range of crop science
projects. The ideal candidate would have at least an MSc or equivalent
experience in Bioinformatics or a related subject and have used relational
databases and SQL and must be competent in at least two of the following
programming languages: Java, Python, Perl, PHP. The ideal candidate will
