EMBO practical course on Bioinformatics and Genomes Analyses

Aim of the course:
The main objectives of this practical Course are to strengthen skills
of PhD students and young researchers in the domain of Bioinformatics
and Genome Data Analyses
on the use of advanced fundamental algorithms and their applications
in genome studies.
The course topics will include theoretical and practical aspects in:
- Genomes comparisons,
- Evolutionary analyses (orthologs, paralogs),
- RNAseq and Next Generation Sequencing (including algorithms,
methods and sequence mapping tools, data analyses and applications).
Practical sessions in a Linux environment will involve Unix shell and
Perl scripting. Participants are assumed to be familiar with this
environment.
A series of lectures delivered on recent hot topics in genomes
(Viruses, Prokaryotes, Eukaryotes) studies are included in the
programme and future research perspectives will be highlighted.
Twenty (20) full time places are available for the course. Acceptance
will be subject to an evaluation process.
Selection criteria include confirmed initial experience in
Bioinformatics and Genomics, running projects (submitted abstract)
and expressed motivations.

Who can attend the course ?
The course is aimed at motivated Phd students and young researchers
in academic Institutions with background in Mathematics, Statistics,
Computing and/or Biology who are involved in Bioinformatics and
Genome Analyses projects. The course is intense and active
participation is expected.
Duration: Full time: May 5 to May 17, 2014.
Location: Hellenic Pasteur Institute, Athens, Greece.

You will need to carefully complete an application form, submit a one-
page CV, an Abstract related to one of your current projects and a
recent identity picture.
Travel grants: A limited budget for partial and full travel grants is
available from the RIIP (for students coming from the RIIP
Institutions) and EMBO.
The final decision for the attribution of these grants will be
announced at the end of the course. Grants attributions will strictly
depend upon the active participation of the students.
