      Tenure-track Faculty Opening in Marine Ichthyology

POSITION: ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR.

EFFECTIVE DATE: August, 1998

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in the biological or oceanographic sciences with
training and research in one or more of the following areas of marine
ichthyology: (1)
physiological ecology, (2) fisheries, (3) population ecology, (4) molecular
systematics, (5)
behavior. Applicants must have a record of published research and show
potential for
developing and sustaining an externally-funded research program involving
students that
will lead to original scientific publications. Demonstrated potential for
effective teaching
in ichthyology. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and
culturally diverse
campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Training or research experience that
includes a clear field orientation. Postdoctoral or other professional
research experience
on marine fishes. Prior successful teaching experience at the
post-secondary level,
preferably in ichthyology. Willingness to participate in lower division
offerings and teach
upper division/graduate courses in area of specialty.

DUTIES: Teach course in ichthyology and upper division/graduate specialty
course with
field component. Participate in majors introductory biology courses noted
above.
Supervise undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) student research. Develop and
sustain an
active, externally-funded research program involving students and leading
to scientific
publications and presentations. Participate in activities serving the
department, university,
and community.

SALARY RANGE: $37,140 - $59,172.
