InterRidge is a non-governmental, international and interdisciplinary
initiative concerned with all aspects of mid-ocean ridge research
to geophysics). It is designed to encourage international scientific
logistical coordination, with particular focus on scientific problems

existing, single-institution experiments to initiation of fully

The InterRidge Office acts as an information center and clearing house
ridge-related matters. It convenes symposia and workshops and publishes
reports of these meetings as well as a semi-annual newsletter. The
newsletter is distributed free to members of the ridge crest research
community and contains: reports on recent ridge crest cruises, updates
international cooperative research projects, news from national and
international research programs, various announcements and notices
pertaining to ridge crest research and an up to date schedule of ridge
cruises. The InterRidge Office also maintains a World Wide Web Home
with updated information and announcements, a directory of international
research platforms, updated cruise schedules, links to other programs,
an international directory of ridge crest researchers.
InterRidge is presently chaired by Dr. Mathilde Cannat at
Paris VI and the InterRidge Office in Paris is run by Dr. Cara Wilson
(Coordinator), who will be leaving InterRidge in March 1999. The
applicant should be able to start work in Feburary 1999 to have overlap
Cara Wilson before she leaves. The Coordinator has the help of a part
assistant (Dr. Corinne Fleutlot). The Office will stay in Paris until
December 1999, at which time it will rotate to an office in one of the
principal InterRidge countries. The post will last until Dec. 1999,
