"Amateur" Deep Sea Biology

Hello,

Are there any methods(dredging, trawling., etc.) for the "amateur"
marine biologist to catch midwater/bathyal/ abyssal organisms or 
microorganisms, both free-swimming and those that live in the sediment on 
the ocean floor? Are dredges and trawls available to the
non-professional(considering money is not an issue), and are
licenses needed to pursue this type of "hobby"?
