Keeping lab Drosophila out of the lab cafeteria

You could try taking samples of the flies from the cafeteria, telling them
you will do a DNA fingerprint analysis to determine where they came
from, and disappear for a few days. Then report back that they are
not from your labs but are the type that is endemic to your area. Suggest
that they may be coming inside for the winter. Suggest that they are
perhaps leaving fruit and vegetables out too long, and that you could
call the Health Department for suggestions on how they could store
their food better. Perhaps a Health Department Inspector could offer
them some suggestions on food storage techniques. Do this with a
very helpful and earnest facial expression and tone of voice.
