vestigial trait

I am working on a fruit-fly project in a high school that has limited 
resources. We were working with the vestigial wing trait and can find very 
little information about the trait. Could anyone please help me with 
background information on the trait, when it originated, technical info about 
the trait and are there other forms of the recessive vestigial trait.
