I just came across an interesting article on this subject:
Delayed male maturity is a cost of producing large sperm in *Drosophila*.
By S. Pitnick, T.A. Markow, and G.S. Spicer in P.N.A.S. (92:10614-8)
They give the record to *D. bifurca* which has an average sperm length of
58mm.
