they drown?

I'm conducting some heat shock expts. on eggs.
The eggs are sitting on a nitex cloth and I let
this boat with eggs float in a water bath at 37
deg C. A thin film of water covers the eggs during
heat shock, and later when I place them in a food plate
I guess they are soggy and their dorsal appendages fold up.
I wonder if eggs drown during this process. Thanks for answering.
