One of the postdoc (Y-K Kim) in the lab that I was in used to do that. He simply added Xgal to Carolina's instant medium. I'm afraid I don't know what concentrations that he was using. I was amazed that it worked. He is now working in Lee Ehrman's lab (914)- 251-6671.
