Post doctoral Position open january 1997
Drosophila head patterning
CNRS, Universit=E9 Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France

One position is opened in our laboratory to study the genetic circuitry and=
=20
molecular mechanisms of head patterning in the drosophila embryo. Focus is=
=20
on the specification of the post-oral parasegments and associated=20
neuromeres. Approaches include molecular and genetic screens for new=20
regulators and in vivo phenotypic analyses using GFP reporter genes. Further=
=20
studies may include the isolation of Xenopus and Zebra-fish homologs as a=
=20
step in addressing the evolution of head patterning mechanisms.
The Centre de Biologie du Developpement, CNRS, Toulouse, hosts three=20
Drosophila groups and several vertebrate labs with particular strength in=20
developmental neurobiology. It shares facilities with the Departments of=20
Microbiology and Molecular and Cell Biology. Toulouse is the 5th largest=20
city in France and offers a very european environment.=20
The position is for two years with possible extension to up to three years.=
=20
It is part of a Human Science Frontier Project grant with Claude Desplan,=20
Herbert J=E4ckle and Norbert Perrimon. The salary will be in the range of $=
=20
25-30,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
We are particularly interested in a post-doctoral fellow with strong=20
background in genetics and molecular biology, and, preferably, expertise in=
=20
developmental neurobiology. Those interested should contact Alain Vincent=20
with inquiries and/or applications including a complete curriculum=20
vitae and names of three references.
