Molecular Entomology: Transposable elements, germline transformation in
tephritid fruit flies
A post-doctoral position is available for a two-year period with a
possibility for continuation. Basic and applied research on the discovery
of new hobo/Ac transposon systems and the testing of existing systems
(mariner, piggyBac) for use in germline transformation of tephritid fruit
flies (see Genetics 143:1339, 1996; Gene 185:133, 1997). Long term goals
are to create strains amenable to genetic sexing and sterilization (using
conditional lethals and sex-determination genes). Preference will be
given to those having a theoretical and practical background in molecular
biology. Interest and experience with transposable elements, insect
genetics, biochemistry and development are useful. Please send (by e-mail
