Please distribute the following announcement to anyone interested:
POSTDOCTORAL POSITION available, pending anticipated approval of
funding, starting no earlier than 15 Sept 1997 for up to 3 years for a
multidisciplinary investigation of functional significance and
evolutionary variation of heat-shock proteins in Drosophila. This
project is expected to involve both field and laboratory studies to
measure Hsp70-mediated protection of larval feeding against ecologically
relevant heat shock, relative fitness of larvae varying in Hsp70
expression, and molecular evolution/variation in the "hsp70 genome"
within Drosophila melanogaster and among species in the melanogaster
subgroup.
Recent progress on this project is described at:
http://www.bsd.uchicago.edu:2001/Frames/main.cgi/228
and will be presented at this year's meeting of the American Society of
Naturalists/Society of Systematic Biologists/Society for the Study of
Evolution at the University of Colorado in the ASN Vice Presidential
Symposium on "Testing Adaptive Hypotheses Through Genetic and
