Biocomputist / Bioinformatician job
   - a Genome database of Drosophila (FlyBase)

Location: Biology Dept., Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana
(see http://flybase.bio.indiana.edu, http://www.indiana.edu).

Drosophila has been at the leading edge of investigations of many
aspects of genome structure, gene regulation, cell biology,
developmental and population genetics. FlyBase is a database and
Internet information service for bioscientists and others that
captures and represents the core information of these studies.

The successful candidate can become a leading engineer of the FlyBase
service. The focus at Indiana is primarily on publishing (in the broad
sense of bringing to the public) data that has been collected and
organized. Tasks include interfacing from data base and storage to user,
via Internet and other means, involving server and client software
development; extending current analyses and presentations; and helping
to bring new focuses in genomic and supra-genomic information, and
federation with other genomic information, to FlyBase.
The FlyBase project includes scientists at Harvard University,
University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Cambridge, as
well as Indiana University.

Minimum requirements: Masters degree in a scientific discipline; 3
years of programming experience, including a working
knowledge of Java or C++; Internet programming for UNIX; and experience
in bioinformatics. Applicants with more advanced credentials are
encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be located at Indiana University in
Bloomington, an area known for both its rural spendor and urban arts
and cultural offerings. The initial appointment will be for one year
with a further four years funded. Salary will be commensurate with
experience. Indiana University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity
Employer.

For further information or to apply contact (preferably by email) Dr.
Don Gilbert, Biology Dept., Indiana University, Bloomington, IN 47405
