Postdoc Position Open in Taiwan

A postdoctoral fellowship is available beginning May 1, 1999 for the
study of Drosophila eye development. We have cloned two novel genes
regulating eye formation. eye gone (eyg) encodes a Pax protein and is
required for eye development. Ectopic eyg expression can create ectopic
eye. It shows synergistic interaction with the eyeless Pax gene.
homothorax (hth) is a homeobox gene. It suppresses eye formation. HTH
also activates the nuclear localization of EXD (another homeodomain
protein) (G&D, 12:435-446, 1998). The study will be on the molecular
mechanism of eyg and hth function.

The candidate should have molecular biology training. Experience or
knowledge in fly genetics or development would be prefered. The
fellowship is from a 5-yr Frontier Science Grant from the National
Science Council.
