A position for a senior laboratory technician is available at the Dept of
Zoology, University of Cambridge, England. (P. Simpson's lab).

The job will include responsibility for the day to day technical services
of the research group as well as undertaking various research projects
involving both fly genetics and molecular biology. The latter will include
maintenance of the Drosophila facility, generation of transgenic and
genetically mosaic flies, dissectiion and staining of embryonic tissues,
and participation in molecular screening for homologous genes in various
insects. The job holder will also be responsible for maintenance of
Drosophila and other insect culture and facilities, ensuring that supplies
of special chemicals, culture media and equipment are available, ordering,
receiving orders/checking delivery notes etc, checking invoices and
authorizing payment, organizing databases for suppliers reagents etc.,
selecting, ordering, becoming acquainted with, new equipment, and ensuring
maintenance of existing and new equipment. The job holder will be
responsible for the supervision of the junior technician. This will require
initial training, and subsequently  setting priorities, work allocation and
overseeing the quality of the work. 

Requirements:
Appropriate technical diplomas. Preferably 7-8 years' experience working in
a research laboratory and including techniques of molecular biology and/or
genetics.
