Research Technician I/II
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain lab drosophila stocks; drosophila
husbandry; drosphila injections; assist in ongoing genetic screens; plasmid
preparation; DNA/RNA isolations, assays, transformation & sequencing;
restriction mapping; PCR; southern, northern & western blotting; agarose gel
electrophoresis; PAGE; bacterial culture; media preparation; transgenic lines.
REQUIRES: A Bachelor's degree in a Biology or a Biological Science; 1-3 years
of experience preferred; drosophila husbandry experience preferred.
The Scripps Research Institute is a Biomedical research facility. TSRI was
founded in 1961 and is the largest private non-profit research facility in
the country with over 2,700 employees. Research is conducted in the
following scientific departments: Molecular Biology, Molecular and
Experimental Medicine, Cell Biology, Vascular Biology, Immunology,
Neurobiology, Neuropharmacology, and Chemistry.
The nature of the work is basic and aimed at the discovery of fundamental
scientific knowledge, but has significant ramifications for stroke and
heart disease, cancer, brain disease, viral disorders, alcoholism and
chemical dependency, autoimmune diseases, kidney dysfunctions and the
creation of synthetic vaccines.
