RESEARCH TECHNICIAN POSITION
Position status: Full-time, fixed term
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Description of the Position: The position is within an established Fly
group and will entail work on several projects involving Drosophila
molecular genetics and biochemistry. Experience in the following
methodologies would be valuable.
- Molecular biology (PCR, cloning, Northern and Southern blots),
- Protein function analysis (western blots, immunoprecipitation,
affinity chromatography, yeast two-hybrid analysis)
- Drosophila molecular genetics (genetic crosses, production of
transgenic flies, RNA in situ hybridization),
- Cytology (phase microscopy, immunofluorescence),
- Drosophila behavioral studies.
General lab. duties will include: maintaining the lab in smooth running
order by maintaining lab stock collections (Drosophila, bacteria,
plasmids), supervising the maintenance of Drosophila stocks, ordering
reagents, and providing initial training for new members of the
The ability to maintain an independent research project would be a
Qualifications: Ideal for a highly motivated person interested in
learning new techniques. Good organization skills and excellent inter-
personal skills are essential.
Training should include at least a completed B.Sc. in biochemistry,
molecular biology, genetics or a related discipline, and
a minimum of one year experience in a similar setting.
The position is a Rice University in Houston. Rice has a beautiful
adjacent to the Texas Medical Center, in lovely part of the city.
